I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Business School.

My research examines the psychological processes that drive our social choices and their consequences at the macro level. I focus on social choices that are complementary to homophily, the tendency to associate with similar others, and show that these preferences include an asymmetrical attraction to extremity. I study people’s preference not just for similar others but for more extreme members of their own group, and how this preference reshapes social networks and collective behavior. I use a mixed-methods approach combining behavioral experiments, large-scale data analysis, and computational modeling. I received a $248,000 grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation to examine the attraction to extremity around the world, spanning more than 40 countries.
